The East Coast Rail Adventure is the ideal way to see Australia's East Coast on a budget whilst meeting other like minded travelers. All our transport is on scheduled services of the national rail network, to ensure a comfortable ride between highlights. In each location you are looked after by local tour guides that know the region you are visiting and all the accommodation is centrally located and chosen for its amenities.....This is a great way to see Australia.

Day 1 & 2: Sydney to Byron Bay
We depart Sydney early from Central Station to start our rail journey up to Byron Bay. Here you can surf with dolphins at Australia's most easterly point, go for a latte in a street café or just chill-out in this hippie town & backpacker mecca.

Day 3: Byron Bay to Brisbane
Continuing north, we travel by coach for this short leg to Queensland's capital, Brisbane. This is a vibrant city with lots to do. You will have plenty of free time to explore at your own pace. Our accommodation is very central and in walking distance to most attractions.

Day 4: Brisbane to Hervey Bay
Today we board Queensland Rail enroute to Hervey Bay. This is the gateway to Fraser Island and famous for viewing the annual whale migration. You will have some free time this afternoon to explore the sleepy township before joining in the fun at the resorts bar in the evening.

Day 5 & 6: Fraser Island (BLD*)
Call us biased but Fraser Island really is a must-do! Seventy-Five Mile Beach would have to be the most amazing highway on the world - imagine 4WD-ing along a surf pounded beach, stopping to admire the vibrant Colored Sands, splash in the Champagne Pools, float down fast-flowing Eli Creek, climb Indian Head to spot sharks and rays, and even take your photo at the rusting Maheno Shipwreck... a World's Best Beach? We think so!

You'll be glad you chose a guided tour - You'll spend each full day exploring this World Heritage wilderness and get to see the most awesome sights - your ranger/guide stays with you the whole time, so you'll learn heaps and have loads of fun. The tour has Advanced Eco Certification from Ecotourism Australia - we do all we can to protect this miracle of nature!

After each full-day touring, you return to the lodges for a refreshing shower, great buffet dinner and comfy night's sleep (or party in the Dingo Bar!), then wake up to a hearty buffet breakfast to get you ready for the day's adventures

*Breakfast is not included on day 5.

Day 7: Fraser Coast to Whitsunday Coast (BL)
Today you have time to relax & rejuvenate with free time to laze around the swimming pool, do a few of the short resort walks or possibly have a chance to sleep in. In the evening we head back to the mainland to board the train to Airlie Beach

Day 8 & 9: Cruise the Whitsunday's (BLD)
On arrival into Airlie, you will need to check your bags in and pay the EMC Marine fees (AU$65). Then you will have the remainder of the morning, free to explore this coastal resort village. In the afternoon you will board our sailing vessel just after lunch and leave the wharf between 02:00pm & 03:00pm.

Our vessel is a 34 meter schooner yacht, that has everything you need on board, including 21 private cabins: 2,3 or 4 people in each. The most popular feature is the awesome outdoor spa bath. Imagine sailing past the Islands lazing in an open Spa! Pure Decadence. The Clipper also has a spacious saloon, sun tanning deck and it's fully air conditioned.

Onboard our clipper, you will sail around the Whitsunday's - which is an archipelago that is made up of 74 tropical islands. Activities include the chance to snorkel, dive, and even bush walks on these idyllic islands. Whether permitting we will also visit Whitehaven Beach - which is a highlight to many of our travelers.

*Breakfast is not included on day 8.

Day 10: Airlie Beach (B)
After breakfast and possibly one last snorkel, we head back to the Marina in time for lunch (at own expense). In the afternoon you will check-in to our backpacker resort where you can laze by the pool or explore the town further. This is a real party town so in the evening, let your hair down and party with your new found friends.

Day 11: Cairns
We have an early start today as we re-board the train north to Cairns. Cairns is the adventure playground of Australia offering bungy jumping, white water rafting, kayaking, ballooning and diving. Here you have plenty of time to experience the Great Barrier Reef along with the other adrenaline activities that this town boasts....and then it is party time when the sun goes down.

Day 12: Great Barrier Reef (L)
Experience the Great Barrier Reef on our full day snorkel & dive cruise. Our vessel is one of the fastest to get you to the reefs meaning you get to spend more time snorkeling and exploring - you can also try SCUBA diving for a small fee.

Day 13 & 14: Cape Tribulation & Daintree Rainforest
Enjoy an unforgettable journey of fun, discovery and adventure exploring the majestic rainforests, pristine rivers and white sandy beaches of the World Heritage Listed Cape Tribulation and Daintree National Parks. Cape Tribulation is the only place in the world where two world heritage listed regions live along side each other. We will go on a cruise in search of wild crocs, go on guided walks in the national park rainforests plus also give you plenty of free time to explore at you own pace.

Day 15: Cairns
Your package ends today after you check-out of the backpacker resort.
